Updates at the Luxor Las Vegas Hotel
The Luxor has been in a ongoing series of changes in the last year. Basically what they’re doing in trying to “de-brand” the Egypt theme & make it a lot more contemporary. The parent company, MGM-Mirage said it was in need of updating & this was their answer. They’ve made quite a few changes already, adding several bars & opening the new ultra club LAX in the spot of the former RA. The poker room has been moved right by the sports book & the new Cathouse restaurant/nightclub is slated to open New Year’s Eve. They also opened the new American Company Bistro restaurant a couple of weeks ago, right next to LAX. It’s got a nice theme resembling a mountain cabin. They also just opened up a Fat Tuesday’s just outside the Luxor in the Mandalay Place.
Also coming in 2008 is the Criss Angel Cirque du Soleil show. It’s the first Cirque show designed specifically around a single person. He’s been filming most of the latest season of Mindfreak in & around the Luxor.
Personally I’ve always had a soft spot for the Luxor, having stayed there several times. It’s a really unique experience. I’ve only stayed in the Pyramid rooms. There’s nothing like the “inclinators,” the main elevators located at the corners of the building. They go up at a 39 degree angle. It’s a weird feeling going up the elevator sideways! Plus the view of the inside is jaw-dropping.
Vegas is all about what’s new & exciting. There’s so much competition here that you always have to stay one step ahead. The trend lately has been to upscale and flashy & the changes at the Luxor reflect that. Here’s some quick shots of some of the changes.
