Update On Las Vegas Hotel Construction

As you know Las Vegas is always a city in perpetual state of change There’s always something new, being built, something being redone. There’s always something new and interesting going up. Several of the Strip hotels have been doing some major renovation and/or construction and here’s what’s new and updated:

Luxor- As I’ve reported before the Luxor is undergoing a total re-do inside and getting rid of most of the Egyptian theme. Here’s the latest:

Pretty much all of the downstairs work is finished. The new high limit area is open, along with a high limit lounge, located behind the Aurora bar. The new steakhouse, TENDER, is open, in the same location along the west wall. The sports book has been revamped and is now reopened. The new Criss Angel Theater is open, although the official show opening is delayed again. The LAX nightclub, the Cathouse, the Liquidity ultra lounge, the Flight bar and the Company restaurant are all fully open and finished.

The only really big projects left are upstairs on the Atrium level. Both the Titanic and Bodies shows are relocating from the Tropicana. Bodies is open, located in the former arcade site. Titanic is taking over the space formerly occupied by the King Tut exhibit and will also share the space with a new Sports Immortal sports memorabilia and artifacts. Also the Mexican restaurant is being reworked and is still under construction.

New York, New York - They’ve been undergoing a total redesign of the whole casino floor over the past few months. Gone is the Big Apple bar, the old high limit area, and the bridge and water display.

The new casino cage is where the old high limit area was, the new (and very nice) high limit area is where the Big Apple bar was. Also brand new is the new Rok Vegas nightclub located in the space formerly occupied by the theatre used by Rita Rudner. It looks pretty kick ass too. They’ve revamped most of the casino floor and have moved all the table games around. Also new is the overhead designs over the tables. They look a lot more modern and futuristic. The carpet is all new as well and there’s just a small area left on the casino floor to finish. Also soon to reopen is the Nathan’s restaurant up on the arcade level.

Encore- They started hiring a few weeks ago and are hoping for a December 2008 opening. They’ve also announced that Danny Gans will be moving from the Mirage and will take over the Spamalot Theater, which is technically in the Wynn but i’m guessing they’ll be connected line the Venetian and the Palazzo are. They have a lot of work left but I’m sure it’ll be done on time.

Treasure Island- Not a whole lot going on here outside of the new Christian Audigier The Nightclub opening in the old Tangerine space.

Caesars Palace - Construction continues on the new Octavius Tower expansion. It’s scheduled to open in early 2009. It’ll also have some new pools and more convention space.

Bellagio- The new Yellowtail sushi restaurant is now open. Located just off the main casino floor across from the FIX restaurant it’s the newest offering from the Light Group who own several of the most popular restaurants and nightclubs in town.

Mirage - The Volcano refurbishing is moving along and is still scheduled to reopen by the end of the year.

That’s really about it for the major stuff outside of the CityCenter and Cosmopolitan which are moving along, albeit both are having some financial issues.
