Million Dollar Display Returns To Binions… Sort Of

One of the most photographed tourist attractions in Las Vegas was the million dollar display at the old Binion’s Horseshoe in downtown Vegas. Years ago Benny Binion acquired 100 $10,000 bills and put them inside a glass display case and put it on display inside the casino. It was one of the biggest draws for tourists and stayed there for years. When his daughter Becky took over running the casino she sold off the display, among many of the poor business decisions she made which ultimately led to the casino being closed in 2004 and sold off to the Harrah’s corporation. In case you never got to see it in person (unfortunately neither did I) here’s a pic:

Now the display has returned. Well, sort of. The new owner Terry Caudill, who also owns the Four Queens casino on Fremont Street, has placed another million dollar display inside the casino. Instead of the cool display it once has they’ve put the money on display in the middle of the casino on a poker table, albeit under a glass display. Also you can’t take your own pics they take the pics, I believe for a small fee.

At least it’s a start. When Caudill took over Binions he vowed to return the place to it’s former glory. I sure hope he does. The old Horseshoe was always my favorite place downtown. It held so much of Vegas history there and it’s a little tough to see it now as just a shell of it’s former self.
