Hard Rock Hotel Opens Poker Lounge

One of the hotels out here in Vegas undergoing a major expansion is the venerable Hard Rock. It’s been one of the few successful “off-Strip” casinos. By catering to a young and hip crowd they really carved out a niche as one of the cooler places to be seen.

When they announced plans a few months ago to open a poker room I have to admit I was a little sceptical. The poker boom is on the downswing and some places, notably the Hilton, have either closed their poker rooms or scaled back.

But the HRH took a slightly different path in they made the poker room also a lounge complete with a bar. It’s also a part of the $800 million expansion project the HRH is currently undergoing, with more rooms, expanding the casino, and another concert venue.

The poker room is really nice I have to admit. They did a great job setting it up. Plenty of flat-panel TV’s to catch the action on and a private VIP room is available.

Also part of the expansion that’s now open is the Wasted Space nightclub which I mentioned previously here. They also expanded and revamped the high limit room, adding more games and a little different look. The old “Elvis” high limit slot room has been moved into the little bar adjacent to the sports book, which is kind of a shame because that was a cool place to hang out.

So far so good at the HRH expansion. It’s always been one of my favorite place here and was sorely in need of some upgrading. It’ll be a while before the construction is done but at least they have all the financing in place so there’s no worry about things being half finished like Echelon Place.
