Celine Dion’s “A New Day” comes to an end.

Celine Dion ended her 5 year run at Caesars Palace this past weekend. She had played a total of 717 shows in that time. Pretty much all of them were sold out as well. Even though she had her detractors, it was one of the most successful shows we’ve ever had here. The Colosseum she played in was specifically built for her by Caesars at a cost of $95 million! Personally I never saw the show but from all accounts it was really something. They’ve tapped Bette Midler to replace her, she starts her show in February. Elton John will still have his Red Piano show when she’s off. There’s still a rumor that Cher will be joining the mix as well, but nothing’s confirmed as of yet.

On another note I’ve noticed several other Vegas blogs gleefully commenting on Celine’s departure. I’m really not sure where the hatred came from. Honestly, she’s not my cup of tea, even though I think she’s quite talented. The bottom line is she made a TON of money for both herself & Harrah’s. (Yes I know it’s horrible. A big evil corporation made money)and made a lot of people happy. I even read a story about a lady that saw the show over 100 times! Now that’s a fan! At the end of the day a show is judged by how many tickets they sell & how much longevity it has. Remember, her original deal was only for 3 years & she extended it to 5 years.
