Wow what an weird weather day we had in Vegas yesterday. For one, we had rain most of the day. The weather report was 10% chance of rain. They were just a little off! LOL What was the crazy part was the low cloud cover. I’ve never seen it as low as it was. It obscured the tops of the hotels! For the most part weather is not news here. Sometimes, just to shake things up it is. Here’s a couple of pics.

Thanx to our friends at AccessVegas.com for use of the pics!
I went to Dunkin’ Donuts the other day. Why is that a big deal you ask? Because we finally have them here in Las Vegas. For those of us like myself that grew up on the East Coast, we didn’t have Starbucks. We had Dunkin’ Donuts. Nothing like a healthy breakfast of coffee & a Bavarian Creme! And don’t get me started on the Munchkins! MMMM!
The coffee is really good too. It’s just plain coffee. No half decaf mocha frappachino whatever. They plan to open about 60 locations here in the next couple of years.
Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against Starbucks. They have about a million of them here. Hell, some of the casinos have THREE of them! Like a lot of people I came here from someplace else. It’s just nice to have a touch of things you’re familiar with.
Now if they can just open a Publix someplace here…
This weekend is the grand opening of the Planet Hollywood Casino. They had bought the Alladin Casino a couple of years ago & revamped the whole place. I have to be honest, I was sceptical when I heard about PH having a casino here. I figured it’d be a cheezy Hollywood theme like the restaurant chain. But lemme tell ya, they did a great job. It’s a contemporary, modern theme & works well. It’s not an easy task to re-do an entire casino AND still keep it open & operating at the same time. They also renamed the mall around the casino & have added some places like Trader Vic’s which are brand new to Las Vegas. I went down today & checked out the soft opening of the Hawaiian Tropic restaurant. They’re gonna have an indoor bar/restaurant & an outdoor patio. The grand opening is set for Nov. 30. Here’s a sneak peak.

Did I mention I love living in Las Vegas?
We’ve had some really nice weather lately and let me tell you, it’s been nice! It’s unseasonably warm, even had a couple of days we tied or broke record temperatures! I spent most of my life in South Florida & I’m not a big fan of winter. It’s supposed to cool off this week though, just in time for Turkey Day.
One of the different thing about living here is we basically have 2 seasons: Summer & Winter. Spring & Fall are basically a 2 week period inbetween 100 degrees & 50 degrees! I guess it’s time to get the jackets out!
The New Frontier Hotel was imploded on Tuesday Nov. 13. It had been closed since July. It was the last of the “Old School Vegas” joints left. It’s sort of sad to see the old places go but there’s always something new coming. It’s not going to be missed as much as the Sands & the Dunes are, but it was the first “theme” casino on the Strip. Many big names have played there over the years, including Elvis Presley and Siegfried & Roy. It was also home to the famous Gilley’s western bar which was ground zero for the NFR crowd when the Rodeo is in town. The owner of Gilley’s has opened a new bar called Stoney’s. It’s about 6 miles south in a strip mall right off Las Vegas Blvd. I couldn’t make the actual implosion (it was at 2:30 AM!) but here’s a pic of the aftermath.

Hey there! Welcome to my blog. My name is Mark & I live in the fabulous city of Las Vegas. I’ve lived in several places in my life & without a doubt Vegas is the most interesting, varied & just plain fun place I’ve ever been. I’ve lived here just over 4 years now & have been coming here since 1998.
There’s always something new going on & I’ll keep you all up to date to the latest happenings & throw in my comments & opinions from time to time.
